The Blur
The motion and the blur in this photo cause confusion for me. I am so tempted to look away because it is hard for my eyes to focus and my brain to determine exactly what I am looking at. Simultaneously, there is a desire to keep looking, to focus and find the clarity that I know is lacking in this picture.
There have been so many times like the photo where I’ve been in situations in life that were blurry. I’ve caught myself going through motions with time passing, and I’ve wondered (too often after the fact) what is this “supposed” to look like? When clarity did come (ultimately by revelation of the Lord), I wondered why no one had offered to help me see it before. In all honesty, perhaps someone had tried and I was too busy rushing forward that I didn’t stop to listen. I regret that I had not learned to heed Wisdom earlier in my life; she is a more gracious teacher than the foolishness which charactarized my youth.
There was a time that getting married was simply a “next step” for me. I didn’t know God had a design and purpose for marriage; I hadn’t even given thought to the pattern or prerequisite of starting a family. Without the clarity of covenantal focus, I believe we all are blind to the means necessary for sustaining a healthy marriage and family life.
In the context of wedding planning, I hear of so much pressure on couples to create a fantastic “fairy tale” experience. That pressure comes from every direction in the wedding industry. It can come from peers, parents and Pinterest! Too many couples are overwhelmed with unrealistic expectations, endless details, and increasing debt. If you are there - please, STOP!
Venue 1848 is a very nice little place to get married but it exists to invest in the integrity of the family. I believe your engagement season is better spent preparing for marriage than simply planning for “your big day”. It is just one of the reasons couples choose V1848 as the location for their wedding celebration.
You don’t have to be a V1848 bride to appreciate the clarity of that focus. You don’t even have to be engaged. In fact, you might already be married!
