Are you searching for an intimate wedding venue that has all the rustic, industrial vibes, and is bursting with unique character? Then you just found your place!
Venue 1848 is located next to an active railroad track in the downtown district of historic Appomattox, Virginia. From the bottom to the top, inside and out, this old building is full of vintage charm and beauty. You will love the original hardwood floors and tin-tile ceiling, as well as great walls for photo options! We’ve even got exposed brick and plaster walls for the classic, fine art feel. Our neutral color palette will not clash with your event colors, guaranteed! There are also a variety of ceremony site options to suit your elopement or micro-wedding needs.
Our most popular ceremony site is in the Green Gate Courtyard. There are large planter boxes enclosing the courtyard, while a roof-top deck provides a partial covering from sun and rain. Our double wedding doors make a great focal point against the trellis wall overlooking the adjacent train tracks. You might prefer our wooden arch against the accent wall of reclaimed pallet wood, or vintage white brick. The choice is yours!
When it’s time for cocktail hour, your guests will leave the Green Gate Courtyard and slip around the corner into the garden area. There, they can enjoy outdoor lounge seating, drinks from the rolling bar cart, and appetizers until the reception doors open.
While they wait, your guests will love our signature “love wall". Use it for couples or family photos, a photo booth or quick selfies! In any case, we invite all of our guests to get a photo with someone they love or for someone they love and tag us. We love seeing our “love wall” on your social media feed.
With the ceremony outside, dinner and dancing will be ready on the inside whenever you are. When it’s time for the reception, your wedding party will head for the stage! Use it for introductions and a dance floor or your sweetheart table and indoor lounge. The big front windows allow our stage to be drenched in natural light during the day and perfectly catch the golden glow of sunset. Wrap the railings with twinkle lights and flowers, line the steps with candles or leave them as they are and enjoy the simple beauty of our minimalist style. This is also a great ceremony site if you prefer an indoor location.
What is a reception without great food? Venue 1848 is unique in the industry for multiple reasons. One of which is that we do not have an exclusive contract with any food vendor, but we can recommend great caterers in the area. That means you can save money and have plenty of food options - from food trucks to plated meal service. If your wedding is a true DIY family event and you’ve gotta have grandma’s special seven layer coconut cake on the dessert bar, we will let her bring it in! There is a warming kitchen with a sink, stove/oven, fridge/freezer, and plenty of counter space to keep food until it’s time to be served. We call it the “Caterer’s Corner”. You will like the option of bringing prepared food in from any reputable source.
Venue 1848 is a family friendly space. If you have children in your group, they are welcome here. To help make that as fun, and as easy as possible for everyone involved, we have a small children's play space, tucked right under the stairs! Parents are encouraged to bring age appropriate toys for the children to enjoy while they are here. While the adults enjoy visiting around the table after dinner, the children can be excused to play safely inside the building. We also have an accessible family restroom.
Upstairs, The Loft @Venue1848 is available for our bride to make her final preparations before the ceremony. It is a great spot for those important “Getting Ready” photos; and to have a “First Look” with her parents, bridesmaid and/or groom. There is also a separate Groom’s Room upstairs where your man can find his boutonniere, get his photos made, and gather with his guys until ceremony time.
The second story Blue Bird Deck provides a sweet spot to catch your breath after the ceremony. There you can exchange personal vows or a private cocktail before the reception starts, take couples photos at sunset, or slip away from the crowd for a moonlight kiss.
Decorating is also totally customizable! Venue 1848 Wedding Packages include access to our basic decor catalog. That catalog has tables, chairs, house linens and more. There are also specialty items that you can add on. So, if you like our style you are really almost done! But you need something different, you can choose to rent items from a decor rental shop (ask for our recommendations), or bring in your own items!
Venue 1848 is the perfect place for your elopement or micro-wedding event! Our most popular wedding package is the “Lily”, It has all the components of a full wedding but on a condensed timeline for up to 60 guests.
If you are planning a wedding and reception larger than we can accommodate, other events can be held here as well. Consider Venue 1848 for your bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, or wedding party brunch with all of the same features and perks that make V1848 the best little venue in Virginia.
